Losing weight and supporting it is a long-term procedure which can last for many years. University of Kentucky decided to organize a program for overweighed people. This program is planned for the period over nine years. The aim of the program is to examine the state of health of obese people in the course of time as they start to keep to a diet, follow it and further during several years.This experiment showed that after losing 100 pounds such people decreased the risk for their hearts, strengthened their health and at an average lost about 66 pounds. In general in this program took place 656 people. We know the results of 63 men and 55 women. At the beginning of the program men weighed about 383 pounds, women weighed about 317 pounds.
The program included several points to follow. The participants had to keep to a strict diet, eat about four-five times a day but in small amounts, they ate many fruits and vegetables, used meal replacements and special entrees and of course they trained much t strengthen their muscles and lose weight. To get rid of excess weight obese people also ate meal-replacement shakes, they avoided eating fat food with high calories level. Special dieticians took care of the patients and organized programs for each of participants of the program.
Well, the program gave such results: men lost at an average 146 pounds, it’s about 38% of their general weight, as concerns ladies, they lost in general 122 pounds, that’s a little bit more than 38% from their initial weight. Such results were gained by men after 43 weeks of the experiment, women needed 46 weeks to lose at average 122 pounds.
Still, that’s very interesting to know what happens after some time passes. In most cases people get their weight back in the course of time, very often if they don’t take care of their health they can become even more overweighed. Nevertheless this experiment showed that after five years both men and women kept half their weight off.
Here are results of the experiment in figures: 17% lower blood-sugar level, blood-fat level lowered on 36% and at least 20% lower bad cholesterol. All participants mentioned that they had lower blood pressure after the program.
In conclusion it must be said that losing weight is only half the work. Keeping weight off is probably the most important thing. Once you have started to take care of your weight and your health – don’t stop it. The experiment showed that losing and then keeping off weight helped people to lower the risk for their hearts by 50%. Take care of yourself all the time and you’ll have great results.
